Is this System worth the money

Hi to all, some help. I have a friend that has an Alienware 17" laptop. Looking at the specs, is this unit worth $1800, he said he paid over $3000 for it. He is giving it to me for this price because he has not touched it for 3 months and it's still brand new in the box, never removed from the box, but wanted to know with the specs if its worth it. Thanks for you opinion.

With monitor and keyboard, it probably weighs 30 pounds.

I wouldn't pay $1800. Its a Clarkdale 940 with 4 gigs of RAM, Windows Ultimate, two 500 GB hard drives, and I guess a 17 inch monitor. I don't know what the dual graphics cards cost. It might be "worth it", but I wouldn't pay it.

    Whoa--it's a laptop. It won't weigh 30 pounds.

    Hi mn072065,

Firstly, you are paying a premium for that little Alienware logo, right away, without knowing what's inside the box. That said, you've got some good little toys in there: ATI 5870 graphics card ($250), Intel i7 quad-core Extreme Edition proc ($1200), 4GB RAM (not the best, $50), 500GB 7200rpm laptop HD (meh, $100)... suddenly you're up to $1600, and that's not counting anything else. Given that it's an Alienware, I'd say that's actually a pretty good price for a brand-new i7 gaming laptop. Does it have Windows on it already? That'd be the deciding factor for me (unless you have it already). Also, I have no idea how much it weighs. My ASUS laptop weighs about 10 lbs, and it's a 17", but it's not going to be as beefy as that machine. Maybe 12-15?

    Hope this helps! :)

See if he'll come down to $1500 and you have yourself a heckuva deal.

I called alienware and said it would cost $3845 dollars but I'm afraid on the weight I'm sure it will be heavy to carry
