    USB.E-SATA external hard drives

I am currently running Ubuntu 11.04 on my HP (DV5 1110em) laptop from an external USB 2 Buffalo ministation hard drive, I have noticed my machine is equipped with an E-SATA port. Would using an e-sata external hard drive be any faster that the usb option ?.

Let's say the BUS is definitely faster on e-Sata. But if you really notice any improvement depends largely on your Hard drive.

eSata is faster. USB 2.0 usually gives you around 20-30MB/s. As long as the hard drive in that enclosure can go faster than that, you should have no problems getting those speeds. I usually get 80-90MB/sec with my eSATA docks.

    Thanks for your help.
Is there any particular eSata external hard drive you could recommend ?, do they take power from the lap top or the mains ?.
