As for drivers for the board it, well. I know nothing about AMD, but intel based boards get chipset/inf drivers updates all the time from Intel. AMD doesn't do the same?
As far as I know, these come from Asus, not AMD. While the MB is for an AMD CPU, the chipset is not from AMD. The Northbridge is an Nvidia nForce Spp 100, and the Southbridge is an Nvidia nForce 4 SLI. I do not think that Nvidia any longer supports nForce 4.

I just noticed on ASUS ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe there are drivers for different OS's.
I'm not sure if the controller is the same or different for Win and Linux etc.

Also there are Bios updates. This is latest non Beta.
Version 1303 DescriptionA8N32-SLI Deluxe BIOS version 1303
1- Improve the compatibility with some external SATA storage HDD.

Don't know what version you are using or if it would help.
Just trying to help.

I think that UEFI BIOS can be shown in Windows. Could be wrong though.

When I bought this motherboard (used), I also bought a new BIOS chip, which was programmed with the latest BIOS. However, it was a higher number than that, because it is beta. I suppose that could be part of the problem, but I tend to doubt it, because the SMART issue did not begin when I installed the motherboard and BIOS.

Until now, I have just considered it a sign of a looming failure of the hard drives.

EDIT: I think that any thing from Asus that is OS dependent would be chipset drivers, not the BIOS. Since Linux installs it own chipset drivers, I doubt that is the problem.

Page 4-14 and 4-15 of your manual.
SMART can be disabled in Bios. Shouldn't be but if it is set to Auto or Enable.

I'm just trying to think of things you may or may not have thought of.
Might all be useless on my part but I wasn't doing anything else.

The bios itself can't be shown in windows (with my board), but the extreme tuning utility will show some of the bios settings and can be changed.

Thanks for clarifying that.

BTW that extreme tuning utility is just like Gigabyte's EasyTune 6 in that it too will show/allow you to change certain BIOS settings.

Anyway thanks for the info.
