Jump on this deal at HP?

Should I jump on this deal, for $1064

    2.0GHz 2630QM (2.0GHz, Quad, Turbo 2.9) Sandy Bridge
    8GB DDR 1333
    750GB, 7200RPM
    1920x1080
    ATI Radeon 6770 w/2GB VRAM
    Blu-ray reader
    Intel Wifi w/Bluetooth

TBH, I have a Macbook pro right now, and I HATE the direction Lion/Apple in general is going in...

Sounds like a DV-7, is it refurbished?

That's not a bad price. I got a similar rig (see my system specs) from HP for $1186 after tax. Be careful with the 7200RPM 750 GB hard drive though, I've heard they're sketchy in terms of stability, part of why I'm thinking of downgrading my space from 750GB 5400RPM to 600GB 7200RPM (for speed increase).

    Its a brand new dv6t.

What I'm thinking is ordering it, since the sale expires today, and then if Apple does something "magical" monday, I'll still have 14 days from then to return it.

However, if you're going for that laptop, I would honestly suggest spending a bit extra and upgrading your CPU to the 2.2 / turbo 3.3GHz, it's worth it for gaming and VMs. Unless the sale is "as is."

That upgrade is possible, but its another $120. Besides the 300/400MHz upgrade, does it offer anything else (I know the baseline CPU doesn't offer the AES feature).

Also, what do you mean about the 750GB being sketchy?

Thanks for all the help, BTW.

Apple doing something "magical". I'm sure that they will want people to believe it's magical, but at the end of the day, you have to determine whether it really is. Plus, as we all know, an Apple MacBook with those specs would be 2 to 3 times the cost.

That price seems really solid to me.

Exactly, the whole "Cloud" thing is ever so unappealing, especially in the hands of Apple. Personally, this laptop, a Samsung Focus, and Windows Live/Xbox Live would be one kickass ecosystem, with a lot more openness to move about.

    I have an i5 15" Macbook pro now, and the i5 480 + 256mb 330m leave a lot to be desired. Also, 1440x900 sucks.
