External Hard Drive 500Gb Kingmax Question

Hello. Recently I split my 500GB into two volumes halving it into 250GB for each volume. One volume, which is the G:, is a FAT32 format, and the other "H:" is NTSC. I performed this on a XP, then recently I got my new computer I tried plugging in the external but it only read the FAT32 one. And on disk manager it shows both of them, but the other one is not readable. I then tried it on my other laptop which is also a Windows 7, it didn't show either. I have really important files in there. What can I do? Please help

Hello tygster, welcome to the forum

I have no idea why this is happening

You could use a live linux CD to allow you to copy the data across to the linux desktop and then format the NTFS partition to FAT 32 before copying the files back to the disc.
Warning because this is a live cd you will not be able to turn your PC during this operation as all files on the linux desktop will be lost.

You might want to check disk management and make sure there is a drive letter assigned to both partitions and that it shows online in the left column.

Did you do quick format or complete? Especially where you mixed file systems it's a good idea to do the slow format. Also XP NTFS and Vista and later NTFS partitions are slightly different. XP partition tools aren't a good idea on Vista or W7.

btw you must be into video since NTSC is a DVD format. :)

If you can get the data off safely then I'd reformat the NTFS partition with new tools the slow way.

    See Partition Wizard boot CD.
