Try HDTune- you might have some luck.
You can get it here: HD Tune website

Good luck and I hope this helps!

There is no direct way to determine the speed except for what the manufacturer states. For Green drives WD doesn't state the speed but call it intellipower or something like that. I happen to know it is 5400 rpm though. You can tell it indirectly from HDTune however.

When you run HDtune benchmark and it does access time (the yellow dots), you can tell by the vertical width of that band of dots. This is because the width of the spread is the maximum drive latency, which is the time it takes for one revolution:i 1/rpm. If it is 7200 rpm, the width will be about 8 ms. If it is 5400 rpm, it will be about 11 ms in width. A fine distinction but you can see it. The first image below is a 7200 rpm WDC Black drive and the second a 5400 rpm WDC green drive:

    The Full Monty?

I know it's been a while, but then Good things are worth waiting for.

To enjoy a (not-so-) little gem. check out SiSoftware SANDRA (System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant) from SiSoftware Zone. Drill down to hardware -> storage devices -> physical disks, choose your physical disk from the drop-down list, and you should get something like

There's tons more info if you scroll down, many different hardware categories, plus several other functions besides hardware: benchmarking, software, performance tips, etc.

SANDRA links to SiSoft's product-database, so I don't know if the figure shown is a measurement or a specification, but it's certainly easier to interpret than HD Tune's scatter-graph. On top of that, the price is unbeatable.

    Enjoy!
