is $185 a good deal for selling my old notebook?

Hi, I have a used Asus F3SA laptop, 160GB Hard Drive, 2 GB Ram, Windows Vista 32bit, Intel Core Duo T7500... the system was originally purchased in 2008.

I am preparing it for resale. I got a revised offer from cashyourlaptop.com for $185. I'm not aware of other places with a good deal. I wanted to run this offer by the forums to seek advice on whether this is a good offer or if there is some alternative I can consider.

    Thank you.

    Hi there

Actually if you can get it take it since -

You can pick up a NEW notebook these days very cheaply indeed - often for around 250 USD.

Same with some laptops -- also dirt cheap these days if you avoid the top end large Sony's etc.

There is almost NO market for used computers -- don't want to be harsh but it''s always been like that.

The best use for these is to do one of the following

    1) strip out say the HDD and use as an external HDD
    2) Use the machine as a Learning machine by installing Linux or other OS on it
    3) Give it to a School, a charity or relative / colleague who could use it.

I'm totally surprised anyone would offer over 180 USD for a used notebook.

Would be very surprised if this firm is still in business within a few months. They might want it for refurb and resale but I for the life of me can't see how they are going to make ANY profit after labour costs, shipping etc etc.

    Cheers

Out of curiosity, just did a quick Google search on that site -- and it popped up a fraud warning thread.

Suggest you do the same and read it -- before you send off your laptop.

thank you for the tip, i did more searching and did not find a blatant fraud alert. I did receive the paid packaging materials from them to send in my laptop. According to BBB they are rated C+. It's not the best rating, but I think its good enough to send my laptop. I already wiped its hard drive and don't really have any other use for it (as long as I get my money).

Unless you replaced the laptop with something else, the laptop is pretty good for work purposes (much better with Windows 7).

yes, I replaced the laptop with a more powerful customized notebook (quad core, intel i7, etc etc)

the old notebook is decent for work purposes (and I did upgrade it to windows 7 before wiping the hard drive and bringing it back to vista factory state), but I didn't think I could sell it (like on ebay) for more than $185.

As of yesterday I shipped out the laptop, hopefully the money will come through...

sadly my laptop got downgraded to $100. So I'm requesting that I get it back. I guess it can serve as my more portable system since i'm not overly concerned about it getting damaged anymore, and I don't particularly want to spend money on a netbook or tablet.

Who is paying the shipment on this deal? Are they charging you to ship it back?

    So much for their offer
I have had luck using Craig's List. eBAY will kill you with sellers' fees and listing charges.
