Hey guys

After much deliberation and hard troubleshooting i have now decided to switch out the motherboard on an old HP Pavilion A6030n. I searched the model number of the board and came up with THIS.

Now This will be the very first time i have ever switched a motherboard. I've watched a couple of Youtube vids and am confident i can perform the task. The only issue i have is, Am i going about this the correct way?

The motherboard powers on for a couple of seconds as soon as i connect the power chord to the back of the power supply but after some time (6 seconds or so) The board powers off and the fans stop spinning. I am not getting any video output and have tried - Re-seating RAM, Re-seating power connectors, Tried a different power supply. The original post can be found HERE

Should i buy another motherboard that comes with a CPU and fan? If so, what kind of motherboard should i replace it with? How do i tell that the CPU is working? should i replace that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Power supply or the motherboard is likely gone. Have you tried different power supply to rule that out before going about replacing the motherboard? If it still happens with a different power supply then it is likely the motherboard. It could also be both, but you need to test both to find out which is gone.

As far as a replacement motherboard, if you don't care about it not being a board from HP something like this,

would make a lot more sense. Half the price and better specs overall.

As for changing a motherboard, if you have ever played with something like a Meccano set a computer isn't a whole lot different. Just a matter of disconnecting everything and removing some screws, then reversing the process with the new one. One thing that can help a first timer is to label all power connections and any other wires as you remove them, makes it much easier to make sure everything goes back where it should.

So i think i'm looking for a motherboard that has everything with it. CPU, heatsink, and fan. anyone care to point me in the right direction. :)

No heatsink as it is an OEM CPU. You would also need to factor in RAM as that board uses DDR3 whereas your old one is DDR2.

Other than that it would be a very nice upgrade over what was originally in that HP.
