Problem with my mouse
I have recently changed to a new laptop, running Windows 7. On my old PC my mouse was behaving sensible and predictable but on my new PC, the mouse behaves kind of inpredictable and strange things are happening.
The problem manifests itself in various ways and below I will describe it.
- The most bothering problem is that sometimes when I want to highlight some code, with the mouse, a little rectangel appears and blocks of the code are highlighted and suddenly copied and pasted and moved to where the cursor has moved to as I drag the mouse to highlight a block of code. As an example of this you can see this little fragment from my code: "blipuc class" it's an example of how my mouse has modified my code as I tried to highlight a block of code. Originally the code fragment wrote: "public class", but as I dragged the mouse to highlight the code block, the mouse have highlighted "pu", moved it and put it in after "bli", so that "public" has become "blipuc". This is happening all the time when I try to highlight code with the mouse, and in this way my mouse can quickly make a mess of my code. I would like to turn this function off, what ever it is? It's not everytime that the mouse behave like this, mostly if I try a couple of times I can highlight the code normally, but I almost always have to push the redo button to correct some mess the mouse have made. By the way in conjunction with the little rectangle appearing I also see a circle with a line through appearing sometimes, like a zero 0 looks in the IDE Visual Studio.
- Another problem with the mouse when I try to highlight a block of code is that the mouse forgets where I started, I mean I start to drag the mouse from where I want to start, but then suddenly the highlightning jumps to some places after where I started and I have to go back and try again.
- Lastly it's a bit unpredictable how my mouse will highlight some code, sometimes it highlights the code one character at a time, other times it takes whole words at a time, and again other times it will take whole lines.
General for all the conditions above is that when I try a couple of times I can get the mouse to do what I want, but I would like my mouse to behave normal, the other day it had even moved around with my folders in the Solution Explorer in Visual Studio which was not particular cool.
My sense is that it is not a problem with malfunction in my hardware or software.
Can you help me getting my mouse to work as it should?
