Do you have another monitor or a friends monitor you could try as a diagnostic tool for a few mins.

@whest...the monitor is installed through Windows update, so the driver is there.

@Glhs958....I know its the monitor VGA port but why on earth wont windows use the DVI port???!! That makes no sense to me. I am going to borrow a friends monitor tomorrow. But I am going to try to buy a PCIExpress video card instead with a DVI port.

well the dvi and vga port are usually both matted on the same board in the monitor. so if one goes the other would have to be right their with it and die sooner or latter.

Wonderful! I am going to bed b/c I am so close to boxing everything up and sending it back to Newegg. And using a P4 2.8 until it dies.

Only suggested that cause I know your short of money and sometimes (rarely with monitors) a monitor needs a specific driver to function properly, I was going to suggest to try another monitor to confirm the old ones snuffed, but new you would think of it.

Yes you can get good cards these days cheap - if you dont want them for gaming i would suggest a low price ati 5000 series card as they have good value but if moneys a issue a 4000 series card has both i think also and would be half the price - you could find out if you can do better then that at the ati site - but better compatibility the higher the series card you go with w7

The 6000 series card would be nice if you could afford it and you were interested in gaming as there scale well in crossfire and a good investment for the future. eg 6850

Hi guys, another possibility is the monitor is kaput! German for fried. They seen to go bad with no warning.

You might email or call Gigabyte too. I have one of their boards and it took two returns and instructions they did not include in the package to get it working.

On most monitors I've seen with more than one input option you can choose between either "DVI", "VGA", "HDMI" or "Auto". "Auto" is your best choice if you're only running one thing into the monitor. Check through the menu on the monitor itself and see what you have it set at. If it's not already on "Auto", see if switching it to that helps.

(I always wondered why they didn't just leave it at "Auto" with no other choice, since it causes problems if you accidentally set it to the wrong one. The only reason I can think of is if you had something like a DVI connection from your computer and an external Blu-ray player running into the HDMI. That would make it easy to switch sources without having to turn off or unplug anything.)
