Overheating Laptop and New Laptop advice?

Hi

Now i realise this post is rather old now but I'm having the same heat problem with my DV6-1210sa and this is about the only post on the internet I've seen someone thats gotten a decent drop in temperature.

I'm getting temperatures over 85 degrees when my system is under heavy load and 55 degrees when sat idle. I have been looking at undervolting the CPU because just as a quick test I went into the power options and lowered maxiumum processor state from 100% to 99% and saw an almost instant drop of 20 degrees but it also 1/2 the performance of my laptop so i presume done the correct way I would be able to get the same temperature results without the drop in performance!

Basicly i just need you to talk me through the correct procedure for undervolting, I have Overdrive installed and have taken a look at it but i just wonder what you set the voltage to.

Had an overheating (fan running almost all the time) issue recently. Found my dual core cpu was always cranked up to about 70% or so. I tracked it down to a corrupt handwriting recognition file. After a delete / restart it cooled down dramatically and continued to run cooler. The fan hardly comes on in day-to-day use now. Anyways if you haven't done it yet check on an excessive cpu activity.

If you're running a multi-core cpu you could try turning off some cores too if you don't really need them. In Win7 one way is msconfig / boot / Advanced options -or- Control Panel / Administrative Tools / System Configuration. Otherwise bios would be a place to look. That's all I got....
