64-bit Windows 7, 32-bit XP and RAID 5
1. 32-bit XP installed on Intel 64-bit hardware. All is well.
2. 64-bit W7 RC1 installed in dual boot mode. All is well. Both work.
3. Addonics ADS3GX4R5, 4-port, PCI-X (SI3124R5 chipset) installed.
4. Addonics support said set up under XP and all will be well under W7.
5. Configured Addonics ADS3GX4R5 for RAID 5 with 4-Seagate SATA 1.5TB drives
6. Tried to install, under XP, SI RAID Utilities. With 64-bit version, says "Processor type not supported." Okay, it is just a utility program, I'll install the 32-bit version. Installs fine.
7. Attempt to install 32-bit SI 3124 RAID drivers under XP - perhaps this was my error. System hangs hard. Must shut down manually.
8. W7 boot fine.
9. XP will not boot. Screen black after Operating system choice screen.
10. Remove Addonics card. W7 boots fine. XP immediately gives message "<root drive>\System32\HAL.DLL not found. Reinstall the component."
11. Check boot.ini with EasyBCD. Everything seems fine.
12. Replace HAL.DLL from XP install disk. Same error.
13. Assume XP installation has been corrupted. Alternative, reinstall XP and then W7 (since the XP install screws up the W7 boot)
Anyone see another alternative and if I do, will the RAID 64-bit driver set install under XP or do I try W7. (Not wanting to lose my server, I have not tried this yet.)
