    New Computer Woes

So I just got a new computer (some assembly required). The only real difference between the two is that my new computer is running an AMD hexacore instead of an AMD dual-core.

I took out my old HDD and video and put it into my new computer and booted into Windows 7 (weirdly enough, the first time I opened up windows I had to manually open explorer.exe.). Now this is where the problem arises. I have my monitor plugged into the video card (a XFX 5750) yet my computer does not know it is there. I then try to plug it into the motherboard integrated graphics but windows does see it is there (I installed the drivers).

What is the issue? Does my computer think my 5750 is my integrated graphics card?

    This is my motherboard.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. - Yes, all drivers are installed

Uh, just to be clear did you just swap the drive from one machine to another without reformatting it?
If so you are going to have annoying little problems with the installation from this point out.
I really suggest reinstalling. Or at the very least running a repair install just to set all the windows values back to defaults.

I actually almost re-installed then I realized I would have to download 200gb of games (all my games are on steam) and install a lot of game mods all over again (I run on games).

I will run the repair install in a moment.

Edit: Should I remove my video card for it?

You know I have a steam drive...
As long as you keep the steam folders in place. You can just rerun the installer after you reformat your boot drive and it'll redetect all the installed games and everything...
Steam kind of sucks on a single hdd system.

Something to think about, I mean you can fill a whole 1tb drive just with steam games too.
Hell I think last time I saw someone posting about it just all the free games and demos on steam will take nearly 300 gigs of space.

Regarding your XFX - did you disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS?

No I did not disable it, I will go ahead and do that. Also, I have decided to swap out my current/old HDD with my new one. Hopefully I will be able to transfer the steam files over at a later date.

Regarding your steam games, you can back them all up.

Some will however download a chunk of the game but others will backup fine,

If you right click a game in steam and click on backup, it will then give a list of all the games to backup.

Tick all the games you want backing up, click next and take note of the total size of the backup, click next again and in the drop down menu choose custom, enter the size noted and click next then click backup.

It may take a while and you will need a second backup drive or a lot of dvds.

Hope that helps with the games.

Ok: I need to activate Windows but it will not let me. What must I do, what will I need, and how long will it take to deactivate it?

A phone and a legit key should be basically all you need.
    Activate Windows 7 by Phone

    Or press winkey + pause|break
and use the link at the bottom of that window.
