And if that happens there is a very good chance of it taking out some other component(s) when it does. The usual suspect when that sort of thing happens is for the power supply to take the motherboard with it.

    Replace the fan ASAP.

Install the highest wattage that the space will permit and that your pocketbook will allow.

Correct, a higher wattage won't harm anything. It will only put out what it is called on to. As Stormy stated a bad PSU can make toast out of several other components, like a domino effect, avoid using it till you have the new PSU installed.

    Eeeeeekk!

I better get my skates on and get shopping!

I have been looking already and have found a couple of 600W PSU's that look like a good deal and have had good reviews. Now that's I know its safe to use one with a higher wattage I'll be fine :)

    Thanks for all your help!

    You guys are great!!

I would still recommend you buy a good quality one. Yes, they cost more but you do get what you pay for.

Hope none of them are CIT or Powercool or Arctic Power, most of which are cheap junk and used as a store brand of some kind at most UK computer sites. Post up some links of what you're looking at.
