I'm not sure where you live but in the EU there has to be a sticker somewhere.

Are we talking about just a monitor or a laptop computer, because if it's a laptop no wonder we can't find the details for a monitor.

Instead of guessing, get a meter and know for sure. Unsure where to get in Ireland, but in the States I use a Kill-a-Watt meter and you can just plug the device into it and see exactly what is being consumes. P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor: Home Improvement

also i looked up 120 watts for a montior and there was no result for montiors using that also i i have been looking at montior with similiar specs to mine and they use as little as 17 watts to a max of 50 watts and this was when i looked at a totally of 10 different monitors also when i turn on the montior in the mourning it starts off dark and then gets bright but if it used alot of watts would it not be instant brightness also it is not a very bright montior

How long have you had this monitor?

If, as it now seems, it is drawing excess current, it becomes a fire hazard. Double check the power lead and make sure it is connected securely both at the power outlet and at the back of the monitor.

If your power cable is not loose, you might want to consider replacing the monitor because if it is drawing too much current you'll soon notice a difference in your electricity bill,
