    Hi all,
    "AHCI Tutorial for SATA"

I'm trying to enable the extra SATA sockets on my Win7 =32, ASUS MBO.
-Things were OK until my second HDD started to fill-up, so I just added another....but these SATA sockets are not enabled in the BIOS and hence reference to yr Tutorial on changing the Registry ((it is now 0, so those drivers should be loaded)) - but here's the twist:

I press DEL for the BIOS,
if I change SATA-mode to AHCI the "C-" HDD and DVD drive (both SATA) are nowhere to be seen . . . on restoring SATA_mode they re-appear, in both instances the eSATA socket is shown as "not enabled".
Curiously the other two (unused) SATA connections are not displayed, maybe they think I won't need them.

I just don't understand why a MBO has sockets that then have to be enabled, using this long loop.
I've done what was suggested in the Tutorial (very good), but it's not allowed me to access any more SATA sockets.
The eSATA socket is particularly annoying as I want to have a fast Back-up. USB is pretty slow with video-files.

    Any ideas?

    MBO is ASUS M4N78

    All,

I seem to have made a noob mistake, I selected the AHCI option while my computer was booting up, and now windows (vista 32 ultimate) will not boot. This thread is closest thing I could find to someone knowing what they are talking about. I can't figure out how to get into my bios to change this back, have tried the following buttons, delete, f10, f1, f2, f8. I am pretty sure I need to disable AHCI and go back to the original, which I think was IDE even if my drives are SATA.

    Please help.

    AHCI still doesn't work-Help!

Win 7, 64 Bit, newer MB can't remember the name of it now!

Bios has IDE, AHCI, and Raid options, I'm set up in Raid 10 and have chosen Raid!

I have a E Sata drive that I wish to use with Norton Ghost for Backup, I continue to lose the drive and when I turn it on after booting up, it fails to load!

Changed the Regedit thinga ma Jig to "0" from "3" and still doesn't work??

Is there a E Sata thing in the Bios that I have to turn on?

    "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode"

Set this one to AHCI and leave the other alone; if you're going to do a clean install, though the method outlined in this tutorial shows how to enable AHCI after Windows has been installed.
You may be wrong. Because before months, i change only the first option - SATA RAID/AHCI MODE - AHCI (default is IDE). After that i boot from cd and install windows 7. See screenshot http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8748/21447799.png If my HHD works in IDE mode, may be this ''emphasized items ''(on screenshot) wоuld be missing?

p.p if anybody have gigabyte p35-ds3r motherboard, can tell me, the correct and detailed settings in BOIS menu - Integrated Peripherals?
