I recently upgraded to windows 7 and before that my batteries lasted over 3 hours and didn't over heat, but when I upgraded the batteries started overheating quickly and the battery lasts for about 30 minutes off of the charger. I also get a message that says I need to replace my battery. What should I do to fix these problems? I have an acer aspire 5335
First thing is to check your poswer settings and be sure that when you are on batteries that it is using the battery power sceme. And second, that that sceme has reduced clock and brightness settings, conservative disk settings etc like it should. (You should visibly notice that when you plug in and unplug the power supply that the screen brightens and dims at minimum...)
Ive tried that but It still dies very quickly, It only slightly helps, and then It continues to show the same message.
Well, then you may have the problem of windows 7 improperly detecting the battery level.
It's an issue that some people have. THe OS /thinks/ the battery is discharged too low and shuts you down even though it is still nearly fill.
I don;t have a lot of experience with this, but one suggestion is to try issuing the following command at a dos prompt (while on battery I think)
powercfg -setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_BATTERY BATACTIONCRIT 0
Which will turn off the automatic shutdown. Could try that and see if you get your 3 hours back, though you r battery meter may still be out of whack. There are also lots of articles about "recalibrating" your battery under windows 7 but frankly I do not know if that applies or not
