I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I am using AHCI for the boot drive (ssd) and IDE for the 1TB drive?

My mobo has the option to set AHCI for the SATA but ports 5 and 6 can be IDE if that option is selected, which it is.

The boot screen says the 1Tb drive is a slave drive not the ssd as I said before.

I used Partition Wizard to see what that showed and got this

So, PW says I have the drives in the right order, boot drive is Disk 1 and the 1TB drive is Disk 2 but as we can see from my image on page 1, Windows says the 1TB drive is Disk 0 and the boot drive is Disk 1, the wrong order.

I downloaded Partition Wizard because Dalek suggested on this thread but his post and my reply seem to have gone?
yes some one was more interested in simply pulling the entire post instead of taking the time to simply pull the pw 5.0 link i included and edit the post.

Do not pay attention to whether Windows is Disk 1 or Disk 0, because it is the order that matters, not the number. Some utilities start numbering at 0, and others at 1.

I know that, the point it is Windows has them in a different order to how PW shows them.

I am glad I got to see the post before it disappeared then, lol.

Any idea why PW shows a different order to Windows?

I can only assume Windows has it wrong - it is particularly baffling because when I installed Windows - only the boot drive was hooked up, the 1TB drive was out because I had been doing a secure-erase on the SSD (boot drive).

I have a feeling it is because of the AHCI/IDE thing I mentioned earlier.

I don't think it matters because the MBR etc is definitely on the right drive.

no i don't know why windows does that. my drives are plugged into the sata 0 being c, and 1 - 3 are largest first, but windows says different. the other 2 drives are ide drives i gave up trying to figure out why windows does that. as long as everything is working the way it should i'm happy with it.
