Use one of the Intel ports instead of the Marvel. There have been many comparisons and the Intel controller is much faster. You may want to check the OCZ site for firmware updates as well.

Please backup your data first before you go switching ports and or updating firmware…just to be safe!!

1.28 is the latest firmware for that drive (vertex 2).

Anyway I agree with you on using the Intel controller. Even though my motherboard has SATA 6 marvell controllers I don't use them.

Sygnus, my Vertex2 is on FW 1.25. Is there a big advantage to go to 1.28 as to your knowledge? I am always a bit leary about flashing the FW because a couple of years ago I really mucked it up on a Vertex1. I had to send it to OCZ to get it fixed. They were really helpful and did it free of charge - even paid for the postage.

I'm not really sure. According to OCZ they kind of hint no, but.....

Technical Discussion New Firmware releases and what you already see in the market and here on the forum. This involves FW1.24 thru FW1.28..

BTW 1.28 is available for download - OCZ Technology

As for the update, mine came with 1.27 out of the box when OCZ didn't even have that one listed on their download at first.... here's my post about it.... Show us your SSD performance

Bottom line is I'm not sure which is why I haven't moved to 1.28 yet.

Here is the download link for FW 1.28.
these are the release notes from the FW. As far as I can determine, it does somewhere between nothing and little.

Those are the release notes on the new FW. I may be wrong but I thought we had 34nm flash and the next Gen. was going to have 25nm. If I am correct, the only thing I can see is it adds support for something that has not been released yet.

I've only had a quick look at the thread but i'm pretty sure my ssd is under-performing.

Anyone have any ideas how I can change this?

Thanks

As mentioned, the Marvell controller isn't the best one to use, you'll get better performance from the Intel controller.

You can try to update the Marvell drivers but, I don't think they will help much.

Thanks for all the help. Yeah i'm on AHCI and the Marvell Controller.

This a real newbie question, but how do you change to the Intel Controller?

Had a quick look through UEFI and couldn't find anything.

Thanks
