I'm using the new Marvel controller. I had to update my BIOS, update the drive's firmware and load drivers/controllers for the Asus U3S6 card. I also had to switch to AHCI which was updated with the BIOS upgrade. It took some time to get everything set up and I had to reinstall Windows but for the huge increase in performance it was well worth the effort.

Hope it's running good for you, that's a lot of prep work for a SSD install

Unless both drives were put into identical machines I don't think you can compare the numbers side by side.

Motherboard chipset, SATA controllers and drivers all play a factor, and in some cases DRASTICLY. I recently switched from an nvidia MB to an ASUS and fromthe nVidia SATA driver to Intel's and my 4k mulltithread numbers went through the roof (Well they were pathetic on the old platform).

I'll post the numbers when I get back home.

My aim was to see and show the difference in speed. Rumors abound that the 256GB far out performs the 128GB and I wanted to see if this was, in fact, the case.

I can't figure out why I'm getting such horrible numbers with my ssd...any suggestions?

It looks like you are using a stock IDE driver for the HDDs.

Here is an example of the difference between my old nForce motherboard with nvidia ATA drivers and my new Asus MB with Intel drivers.

Now one other differece is that one is a G1 SSD and the other is a G2 and I think that that is reflected some by the higher G2 numbers overall. But look at the 4k multithreaded numbers! Under identical conditions, the G2 performance is really only marginally better than the G1, nothing like the gains in the 4k-64 numbers shown below.

My G1 numbers were HORRIBLE. Worse than anyone elses G1 here. The stupid nvidia driver/ata controller was obviously a single threaded bottleneck and hampering performance considerably.

It depends on your motherboard but try upgrading the ATA drivers to the intel matrix storage drivers and see if that ups your 4k-64 numbers. Those really are the most important ones too since a lot of the time, especially during boot, there are several programs trying to access the drive at once.

Having said all thatthough, my G1 in my nvidia MB was STILL an insanely great [tm] improvement to the system over-all and I wasn;t the least bit sorry for moving to it :)

How do we know which drivers we need and where to get them? I'm just using whatever the default driver is for mine when I installed it.

thats what I'm using my default drivers that came with my Kingston V+ SSD, but trying to find out about the intel matrix storage drivers

Also I just want to check if I'm on the right track with this...for the most part when I look up the intel matrix storage drivers it has to do with this program manager and RAID options
