Hello everyone. I have some questions. I installed a Vertex 2 90GB drive last night. I am in AHCI mode, disconnected all other grives before installing, followed the tutorials, moved my user folders over to a spinner. Based on the comments I have heard, I am a little dissappointed. My system does seem a little faster, but not like the comments. I am including (hope i'm doing it right) some benchmarks. My main questions are:
Is this the performance I should expect?
How do I know if trim is enabled in Windows 7 and how do you schedule it?
Like I said before, I moved my user folders over to a spinner. Now I have a library for hte C drive with nothing in it and also have a library under my user nsme with all of thr info in it. Is this normal?

Your performance numbers are not withing the norm that I experience with a Vertex.

    1. Trim you can check with this command: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
If Command Prompt returns a 0 (zero), your drive supports TRIM and it is enabled.

    2. I suggest you also check the alignment. You use the following commands.

    Diskpart
    List disk
    Select disk n
    List partition

Now you should see a result like this.

    Partition ### Type Size Offset
    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
    Partition 1 Primary 59 GB 1024 KB

The offset has to be divisible by 4.

You can compare your SSD with other OCZ and the same chipset.

    AS SSD Benchmark thread

Your read/write numbers aren't too bad but, the Acc. time is a little off.

    Did you update the firmware?

    EDIT:
Just noticed in your AS SSD snip, you have 1.22 firmware (new is 1.23) it's not that old.
    MS storage driver msachi
64k - ok, that's your offset alignment, green font indicates is ok.
    /EDIT

    For reference.

    Sandforce Firmware update 1.23 (Vertex2, Agility2, Vertex-LE, Vertex2 Pro, Vertex2-EX, Vertex2-E, Agility2-E)

    Some good information.

    As for Trim,

    Q. How do I know if TRIM is enabled on my OCZ SSD?
    A. In Windows 7, go to start/run/cmd), type the following:
    fsutil.exe behaviour query DisableDeleteNotify.
    It should respond back with:
DisableDeleteNotify=0 if TRIM support is ready and active.
If it's not.. type fsutil.exe behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0.

Been a lot of debate regarding the Crucial C300 and Marvell 91xx driver vs msahci so I thought I'd put it to the test. I uninstalled the Marvell driver, rebooted and Windows loaded the msahci files and got me to reboot again. I then ran AS SSD. When it was finished I reinstalled the Marvell driver (the most up to date version: 1001042) and re-ran AS SSD.

    Here are the results:

    Attachment 111463 Attachment 111464

The drive's performance has degraded but it's only noticeable in benchmarks. It "feels" just as fast as it always has.

    Compare those to this:

    Attachment 111466

    only a few months ago.

Your Marvell driver is doing good for you, looks like you're seeing what has been referred to as the 'worn in performance'.

Just did a quick search and found this mentioned, seems it's due to the nand wearing.
Lot's of heated discussion on how/if it can be fixed.

It's great to be on the bleeding edge of hardware

I found a good article on this issue: Analysis: SSD performance -- is a slowdown inevitable? - Computerworld

It's only AS SSD that reports low random read speeds...

I recently upgraded my DAW, with a fresh install.

    i5-650, 4gb ram, win7 32,

Corsair Nova 64gb, rated at 270/130
I'm not using AHCI, but am very pleased with the system response.
    And a 6.9 WEI

I am. I don't agree with moving it to another drive. There have been plenty of discussions on this on this forum.
