Show us your SSD performance

Hopalong, I am at a total loss. The only distinction I can make as far as writing zeros is, The parted magic issues a command and the drive does it to itself rather than externally doing it. Otherwise there would be no difference in option 1 and option 4 in the photo shown of hd erase. So, there must be a difference.

The only reason I asked about bios password is on the intel forums it was said that by setting a bios password is how you enable the drive encryption.

My only other suggestion is to simply run the clean command in diskpart. Theclean cmd is simply a low level format. Then align and format an aligned partition and install windows. Trim should take care of most everything else. At this point, that is what I think I would do. Your drive is new and has very little on it. I just would not run 'clean all'

I was just reading up on the diskpart clean and going to ask you about that. Brilliant minds think alike.

That way it will be marked to be written over per Brink's tut.

That is what I will try next.

Do you know the diskpart commands for the aligned partition and format? Also, be sure to disconnect all other drives except the SSD before installing

No on first question. Don't know what you are refering to.
I thought the Windows disk did all the alignment and all that on initiating install.

Okay will disconnect all the other drives.

Windows will. I just prefer to do it myself. That way I know it was done right. Also, by doing it the way I do it, there is no 100MB partition. If you want to, I'll give them to you. Or you can let windows do it.

Why don't I want the System Recovery partition?

I thought that was the point of the re install since the Sys Recovery on my image was trashed.

Heck if that is all I gain or lose I can use Intel migrate and just migrate the C and leave the recovery partiton off the SSD.

Only one partition. If I need Recovery tools just boot off my SP1 Recovery CD I made for that purpose which I would need anyway if there is no System Recovery partition.

I don't want one because they have caused me problems in the past. You had one but it was not the correct size and had no space in it. If you have a system reserved it must be the proper size- minimum 100MB. Most people have no problems with them but many do.

Okay then why waste a good OS.

I'll migrate the C only which I had the option to do the first time I installed the OS.

Worst case is run Recovery 3 times to replace MBR I think.

I don't have to do all the reinstall of everything.

If and when I do need to do a total re install I know how to do it now.

This is working fine with no bugs but the Sys Recovery being trashed And I evidently don't really need it.

If you are willing to redo it if it does not work, try this. I have done it before and it works great. Make a backup image of just the C partition, not sys reserved. Do a clean install with windows CD. Do not touch the sys reserved. Take the image you made and reimage just the C partition. It worked for me, just make sure to not mark C active.
