    And... I hear the old Marvell controllers will only run at just under 3Gb/s. Better performance has been obtained from the Intel ICH10R with RST. Check out some of the speed tests between Marvell vs. ICH10R. If the motherboard has the new Marvell controller, then ya, use it. Otherwise, Intel-it!

    The first thing to do is find out which Marvell controller chip is used on the motherboard.

    I think they are both called 91XX. But the old one and new one is different.

    Marvell® PCIe 9128 controller

    That is one of the newer controllers.

    My P55 with the old Marvell controller is still faster than a Intel Sata 3Gbs.

    It is the Marvell 9128 Asus

    That appears to be the one I was looking at before. The Marvell controller shown there is for the LAN.

    My P55 has the 2nd Gen.

    Essenbe is 3rd Gen.

    9128 is one of if not the newest Marvell.
