Finally got a replacement for my dead Kingston SSD Now X-25M (SNM225-S2B). Ran a benchmark, flashed the firmware and ran it again. Not sure how to interpret the results tho

tw33k, the flashing did not make a big difference. I would call it "within the measurement tolerance". But the Access Times are excellent. And a few MBs back and forth in the Data Transfer rate do not mean much in real life.
How much better did you expect it to be. I have that same Intel, but as a G1. My data transfer rate is slightly lower but the access time is about the same. I am very happy with it, even without Trim. In about 6 weeks when I am back in Germany I will put my OCZ Vertex (with Trim) into my system there. I am curiouse how that will perform.
If you have the OS already installed on the disk, run the test in safe mode. Then you have minimal interference. Maybe you get better results. But again, don't focus on the transfer rates. It is the access time that buys you the performance for the OS (that would be different for a large data disk where you shove GBs around).
One reason why Raid for the OS does not make much sense in my book.
