    First SSD

I'm thinking about getting an SSD for my new build. My budget at the moment is $281. Due to the limited amount of computer stores in Australia, I'd prefer to buy from either PCCG or MSY.

I was thinking about a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD but heard it had encountered various issues over the past couple of months.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm very happy with my Intel 120Gb but your OCX spec's beat the Intel...

I've been using a Vertex 130 120GB drive for a few weeks without any difficulties.

I haven't been watching the OCZ forums. Are people still having problems if the latest firmware for the drive (2.11) is installed?

I'll go for that one then. The specs look great. Thanks.

I'm not sure... check this... AnandTech - The OCZ Vertex 3 Review (120GB)

If I read it correctly, it would depend on what kind of data you push on it. As a system disk only, it is great. for data, specially compressed data as in some movie formats, not so sure.

Lots of issues with the Vertex 3 series. Make sure you visit their support forums and peruse before buying. Caveat emptor. Better off with an Crucial or Intel (or any non sandforce based) SSD IMO.

I have been using 2 Vertex 3 120Gb for 2 months. I got freezing/hangs at random with firmware 2.08. Upgrading to 2.11 with no issues. Performance is as expected.

You can upgrade firmware on OS installed drive. OCZ forums has a sticky on how to to do it.

If not the Vertex, go for a Sandforce based controller.

My only regret with the Vertex 3 is that I should have waited a couple months for the Max IOPS version.

    Good luck with your purchase.
