Hi all,
My HP Pavilion dv4 says that it burns a cd successfully, however, when I check the cd it's blank.
It will read cd's, it never displays an error msg of any type. Does any one have any ideas as to what the problem may be and how to fix it?

as an addition, it does it with all programs, nero, windows media player, itunes etc..

Most likely it is a hw issue with the burner... But we'll try to test that first.
Are you sure you have set the burner to 'close' the disc at the end of burning?
If you look at the right side of the cd after burning.... Do you see no difference? No physical evidence, discoloration starting from the center going outwards... To show the data ring burned?

I'm not sure if the setting is set to "close" the disc, I haven't noticed it doing that at the end of the burn, though I have noticed it in the past on my older computers.
As for the physical evidence on the cd, there is none. I have done several visual inspections looking for that.
Try a simple windows burn in explorer, make sure you don't only 'ready the files for burning in a folder' but really burn and choose to close the cd...Watch for the cd-led to burn whilst burning....
Are you sure the media is correct? Does your HP burn both + and - disks? See that the media is the right kind of disk. If it is, then....
Get an external burner. (You can get one for about $50 or less) Download IMGBurn. It's free. It's not bloated, and it is is far superior to either Nero or Roxio. Burn your data on the external.
Chances are the burner in your HP is kaput. It happens.
If the disk is RW+ or RW-, closing the data is moot. If the disk is R+ or R-, and you don't want to add data later on, then by all means close the disk. In my experience, this should not affect whether the disk will burn.

Normally true... but an unclosed disk will not play in a normal cd player... which is what we'd have liked to test to see if there was really no data on the disk. But OP already confirmed that he visually checked that...If the disk is R+ or R-, and you don't want to add data later on, then by all means close the disk. In my experience, this should not affect whether the disk will burn.
"Verify" just checks whether the copy is exactly the same as the original. If there's nothing on the disk, there's nothing to verify.
Just had a thought....Is your original disk copy protected? If it is, then maybe you can try the analog hole....that is play the original through your speakers and record it (via Audacity) and then try to burn the Audacity version to the disk.
I still think the burner is kaput.
