    Asus F5RL memory problem

    Hi,

I have a Asus F5RL Laptop, by default it has 1GB memory, and I decided to do a memory upgrade.I bought a Corsair 2GB DDR2 667MHz memory.I installed the memory but the Windowd/BIOS sees only 2GB instead of 3GB.

also i use this great program for reading my "ram details" rammon by pasmark (its free) be sure to use the 64 BIT downland for your machine
PassMark RAMMon - Identify RAM type, speed & memory timings

    RAMMon
is an easy to use Windows based application that allows users to quickly retrieve the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data from their RAM modules. It will allow users to identify a multitude of attributes, of which, includes the manufacturer, the clockspeed and other data of their DDR2, DDR3, XMP and EPP memory devices and even some older memory types. It uses SysInfo DLL SDK to gather the SPD attributes from RAM devices. This information provides a snapshot of the available data for each RAM module installed on the system.

    Hi There Ram666,

If I have gotten the correct spec's for your Laptop it looks like your Mobo is only capable of utilizing 1 GB of DDR2 PC2-5300 per memory slot for a maximum of 2GB of ram memory on your Motherboard.

So your 2Gig Stick won't be seen as 2 GIGS only as 1 GIG.

Refer to the attachment and check out in particular where I have outlined in red.

I think your particular machine is only capable of handling 2 Gbs of ram memory

if thats the case that you can only use a limited amount of ram may i advise you use readyboost to help details here >>> ReadyBoost - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

Want a simple way to speed up your PC?

Just plug in a USB flash drive or card and let ReadyBoost borrow it. ReadyBoost is designed to help when your PC's memory is running low. Low memory can make your computer sluggish because Windows, which needs a place to stash data, turns to the hard drive. Flash memory offers a speedier alternative.

ReadyBoost works with most flash storage devices. In Windows 7, it can handle more flash memory and even multiple devices—up to eight, for a maximum 256 gigabytes (GB) of additional memory.
