Should I remove my battery when the AC adapter is plugged in?

Is it okay to use my laptop with AC adapter plugged or will it kill the battery life due to overcharging? I have Dell 6-Cell Lithium battery.

It will not kill the battery. The way a Lithium Battery breaks down is one cell goes bad and that causes the whole battery to go bad.

I tend to leave my laptop on A/C 24/7 so I remove the battery.

Tests/anecdotal evidence suggests that there is still a higher risk of degradation when a battery is left in.

Conversely, you can find equal amounts of tests/anecdotal evidence to suggest otherwise.

Best advice I've seen is to run the battery down now and then and recharge it before it totally discharges.

That said, my wife's laptop battery went to the recharger in the sky so she's used the mains adapter ever since.

It means the laptop isn't so portable, but she refused to pay for another battery as the original one lasted less than 2 years.
