Ext HD Not Accessible After Win 7 Service Pack 1 Update

    Hi,
Since Win 7 Service Pack 1 Update earlier today one of my two ext HDs will not let me access any files, it comes up with location not available drive H:\ is not available. I have scanned the drive with AVG and it shows all files as it scans no infections. The drive boots up,lights up and spins .It is acknowledged in Computer, Device Manager and Disk Manager. Would appreciate any ideas as it contains thousands of music files! Head spinning BOKEL 1953

Sorry to hear your having issues with your data!

    Welcome to sevenforums!

I am assuming that you are talking USB external drives... Have you tried unplugging, rebooting and then plugging back in?

Perhaps the SP1 update overwrote a proprietary hard drive manufacturers sw... what brand and model drives are these? Im sure your data is still on these drives, the SP1 upgrade wouldnt do anything to your tunes!

Western Digital, and others, external drives frequently use their own software, so you may need to check with your drives manufacturer!

Just a blind shot. Try changing the drive letter in the Disk Management and check whether it helps resolve the problem.

Many thanks to Daryl Licht and Jumanji Problem solved. Used Safe Mode found data, copied it to second ext hd, reformatted first drive everything back to normal.

Thanks BOKEL1953 for letting us know how and what resolved your problem. We become really richer by user experiences like this and that helps us help others. Considering that many don't even return to report, you deserve a pat and rep (though my rep doesn't have substantial weight.:) ) Well done.
