It does matter. Sorry, there was another chap with a problem which was precipitated by AVG.

    Which one were you using?

How did you try to remove it?

I was using Avira AntiVir Personal (the icon looks like red umbrella)

I removed it by Control Panel - Uninstall a program - Selected the program and pressed Uninstall ( all of this was done before the system restore )

Go back to control panel | programs and features

You will probably find avira there again.

    Uninstall again.

If not there, say so and we'll manually remove Avira.

Done, Avira is gone now from my Programs and Features list but i still can't install MSE for some reason in the last step it says:
Windows did not pass genuine validation.
You may be a victim of software counterfeiting.
Security Essentials is available for use on genuine Licensed Windows PCs.
To complete installation of Security Essentials, click Go online and reslove now and get genuine Windows.
After validating your system, run the Security Essentials Installation Wizard.

i tried downloading what they offer online but still didn't work and want me to buy a new copy of Windows.. maybe i should try another anti virus? and thanks for all things you helped me with
