Receiving error that Hard Drive is failing

I have a toshiba hard drive in my laptop that Windows 7 says "Windows detected a hard disk problem." I've backed up my personal files, and now I'm trying to figure out if it can be repaired or if I'm going to have to buy a new hard drive. I tried to run the Toshiba hard drive diagnostic, but the tool isn't allowing me to select my drive and can't run without being able to do that, even though it is my only hard drive. I've checked for viruses and malware, and it says there are none. I've defraged as well. Where can I go from here?

Main - Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-Bit; 2nd - Windows Server 2008 R2

As a guess, I'd say that the tool won't run because the drive is already too far gone.

You might see what this tells you:

For what it's worth, as soon as you get a warning that a drive has problems you can just about forget it. It might last five weeks or five minutes, but it's not going to last five years. You were very smart to back your stuff up while you could. I would plan for a new drive as soon as possible; right now if you really need the machine on a regular basis.

MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Open command window, type the command

chkdsk C: /R

The chkdsk command will inform you that chkdsk is scheduled to run at the next system reboot.

Reboot the system. Let windows check the hard disk and fix the problems during booting. This may take long time... Have patience... Leave the computer to finish the chkdsk.

If you have partitions other than C: then run chkdsk /R on these partitions also.

I did also run a Checkdisk and it did it's thing. Still getting error.

I've kinda resigned myself to needing to get a new HD for the lappy. Just need to get a job first. lol I also need to contact MSI to see if I can get a new Recovery disk so I can reinstall Windows when I get the new HD. I've moved twice and can't seem to locate the disk.

You can find the recovery disks on Toshiba website for your particular model of Toshiba...

You need to download the ISO files and copy them to DVDs...
