    Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T capability - benefits / risks ??


    Are there any major advantages or disadvantages in enabling Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T capability?
    My setup is:-
    Windows 7 Pro X64.
    Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 545 Processor, 3000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processors
    MB:GA-MA785GMT-UD2H
    HDD: Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 ATA Device
    Seagate ST31000528AS ATA Device
      My Computer

    Yes, it is useful in diagnostics. Enable it. No performance loss.

    There must be functionality that my version of HDTune does not provide. I see no way that this application can help me predict when I am going to have a HDD failure.

    Is there more to HDTune than this snip reveals?

    All you had to do was press "Health" in HDtune. You have used the benchmarking function instead.
