    USB devices not recognize

I have seen this on the internet but I tried all the procedures including reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium and I still have the following problem...

The computer keeps making noise that I have plugged and unplugged something in the USB port saying Device is not recognized. Either the list is blank or there is at least one unknown device with six other Unused ports. I have uninstalled all USB drivers, rebooted, and it had rebuild the stack, I made sure all drivers were up to date. I brought up device manager and scan for hardware updates and all USB entries show no errors. Only when I plug in my flash drive or PSP or Ipod touch that it comes up in the list as unknown device. I even tried editing the registry and adding in the variable that looked like it was for Windows Vista and rebooted but it did not help. Finally, I backed up all my personal files and reinstalled Windows 7 - as soon as Windows completed installation, the computer started making the USB unplug and replug noise. I ran chkdsk /F before and a system self test said there was an issue with the SMART test about a checksum failing. I also ran disk cleanup and check disk for errors under accessories.

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes

    Run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Run the manufacturer's HD extended repair scan: HD Diagnostic, followed by Disk Check again.

Is there a newer driver on the device or computer's Support Downloads webpage for Enhanced USB HOst controller?

Generally its best to go with the installer's drivers, which are quickly updated via optional Windows updates, unless performance points to a specfiic driver as may be the case here.

You may also have a hardware problem with USB controller.

I'd wipe the HD and reinstall once more using the steps in Perfect REinstall link in my signature picture below.

Unplug of battery and hard drive fixee d it

    What gives?

I tried the first three steps and was finding no errors. I was trying to create a bootable CD-ROM from Western Digital with a diagnosis tool and I was unable to do so. After reinstalling Windows 7, I thought Dell included a second hard drive and in trying to find the hard drive, I had removed the laptop battery, and then also unplugged and replugged (after realizing this other hard drive wouldn't fix it) it. Then when I booted up, the status bar said driver installed successfully regarding a USB interface. Guess what, all the USB devices are now being recognized.

Was the BIOS or Windows in some stuck state regarding USB devices that an unplug of the battery and or hard drive fixed the problem.

You needed the USB Enhanced Host Controller driver as listed in the steps I gave you. Had you checked in Device Manager?

    Enhanced USB Controller

I dont know what the Enhanced USB Controller is or what it gives you over a standard controller. It is not listed as part of the entries under device manager. Are you saying that I should have this controller installed and it would have
prevented this problem? Anyway the USB devices are working again no problem.

It's under USB devices in Device manager. It means you have USB 2.0 enabled and normally functioning.

It is likely the driver which auto-installed solving your problem.
