Just clutching at straws here. If you go into msconfig.exe advanced options is the memory limited there to 2GB?

hmm i think the problem is that my laptop only support 3gb ...but im not sure if my computer is uma or discrete
if its discrete? but from what i see my computer my only support 3gb ram.. a 2gb and a 1gb...

but its odd when i go to crucial memory it says that my laptop can hold up to 2gb on each slot..
also i would like to point out when i bought the computer it had 3gb of ram the only reason switch it was because my 1gb ram was bad so i had replace and hp send me a 2gb instead of the 1gb i told them had gone bad

The 4GBs are there but half of your RAM is Hardware Reserved. I wonder what this is all about.

HP G62-407DX Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Some of the memory is allocated here, Video Memory: Up to 1405MB

    Memory: 3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM)
    Memory Max: 8GB

It does seem like it supports only 3GB, no matter what the specs say.
I would take advantage of the warranty & let HP repair or replace.

anyway im sending it to hp now. but before doing so i formatted my comptuer upon booting the computer read 4gb of ram with 3.74gb usuable which was better than before but than i went ahead to do updates on the drivers and also windows updates ... i had to work so i left it on when i came home i saw the computer with a BSOD and no minidump folder so i cant say for sure what happen.. when i rebooted the computer said the same thin g about only 1.74gb usuable again. so in conclusion this could have been do with the driver updates or windows updates..

Make sure you communicate that to HP in writing when you send it back. Include in a note with the computer, so whoever repairs it will have a better understanding.
