My WD 1.5 TB HDD is not allways detected

Hello. I need help cos my WD HDD is doesn't always show up in my computer. It comes and goes, sometimes only when I restart my computer.

I've got MSI 770-C45 motherboard, AMD Phenom II black edition multi-core processor and MSI NX8800GTS Graphics card...

    Any guesses?

Do you know what kind of power supply you have, or how many watts it is rated for? You could also try another power plug for the hard drive.

My power supply is cooler master, rated for 300W... I've also tried to change the connector cable but it only worked for short time...

Connect the external HDD to another PC and check what happens. If it plays hide and seek with another PC too, then the problem is in the HDD. If it performs reliably in the other PC then the problem is with the innards of your PC.

As simple as that. Is it not?

Your motherboard has a special power saving circuitry (Active Phase Switching) - an MSI innovation - that controls power to the PC, letting in more when needed and reducing it when not needed. I would naturally suspect a malfunction here, if it is not your main power supply. Just my thoughts.

300 watts sound quite low for a current PC. CoolerMaster is a quality brand, but I would think you'd need more juice than that.
