Can I plug-in SATA cable when computer is running?

    I am not sure:

Can I plug-in (and -out) a SATA cable (to hard disc) from (ASUS) motherboard slot when computer is running?

Or will this cause a damage to hardware?

If your sata controllers are in AHCI mode. It's called 'hot plugging'. Although I only do it if necessary.

Definitely not recommended. But I would only do it if I was trying to install an OS on the HD. I have done it a couple times using an ASUS board and they handle it pretty well. Other boards used to have a Biostar tried fried the plug.

It is supposed to be one of the attributes of AHCI.
