Problem with newly installed Ram, not using all of it

I recently upgraded my Compaq Presario CQ56 from the 2 gigs of Ram it had to 8 gigs. The problem is that its only reading 3.74 Gigs of it as usable. I know that my laptop can handle 8 gigs, I just don't know what the problem is.

Sounds like maxx RAM is set to 4 gigs on config.sys.

Check it by start>config.sys and untick the max ram and max cpu boxes. This assumes of course you are running 64 bit as your specs indicate.,

I did check that and both were already unticked. And yes I am running the 64 bit system.

    Hi,

Are all the RAM chips the same make, model and frequency?

OK. Well, the tool picks up that all 8GB is installed, so I'm a bit confused. What did you mean when you posted that only 3.74GB is usuable?

    Hi,

Can you run the winsat formal command in an elevated command prompt, and then post the results here? It should look similar to that shown below.
