    Different type of RAM memory

    Hi everyone,

a few days ago I bought a new laptop.
    The Asus N53S series.

Before that I had a Sony Vaio.

In the Asus is 8gb of ram and 4 slots (2 filled / 2 open).
    The ram type is: 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600S-9-10-F2

Now I have another 8gb of memory of my Sony which I want to use but it's a little bit different...
    The 2x 4gb module's I want to add are: CL9S PC3-10666-F3
    With latency 9-9-9-24

Can I just add them to the laptop or will there be a problem ?

    Thanks in advance,

Win 7 is finicky about RAM. Sometime even the same ram from the same mfr bought at different times doesnt work. I am betting you can make it work but it may cause instability.

It shouldn't hurt anything to try it, at worst would be a bsd error. General rule of thumb that I was always taught was to keep the type/specs the same, but if it is very similar there's a chance it would work.

First of all you should know more about the specs of it. 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600S-9-10-F2 is a DDR3 type. Also the CL9S PC3-10666-F3 is also a DDR3 type. So I guess there would be no problem installing your CL9S PC3-10666-F3 to your new Asus N53S series.

try to read more about RAM here:
