Anyone found a fringerprint reader for Win 7

Running 64 bit on an HP entertainment laptop that happens to have a fringerprint reading on it.

Everything works just fine except the fingerprint reader. Win 7 does not recognize the device.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1199, with a fingerprint reader from Validity Sensors Inc., using DigitalPersona 4.0 software running on Windows 7 64-bit RC build 7100. I'm using it all the time to log on to my computer and onto websites containing sensitive personal information like my bank and credit cards.

Please fill you computer specs, at least give a full model of your notebook and we'll see if I'm able to help you.

Yes you probably need to find a Vista driver for it. Check Windows update for drivers, alot of drivers just sit there as optional downloads. If not try here http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

Upek works in 64bit Vista / W7. Digital Persona may, depends on age, and the M$ one is an older DP that does not support x64.

I have tried Digital Persona and also Verisoft Access Manager but could not make either work. My system would report that no fingerprint reader was installed or present on my computer.

OK. Here are the drivers for you:

    - Validity VFS201 Fingerprint Reader 64-bit driver
    - Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader 64-bit sotfware

It should work with these drivers. Please install in Vista compatibility mode. Install first then driver, the reboot. After reboot install software. Uninstall first any existing copy of Digital Persona software.

    Excellent. Thank you very much.

Never thought I would use the thing when I bought the laptop but it turns out it's handy and much faster than typing a password all the time.

Nice it worked. It is really practical "toy"; I don't have to remember all the passwords, I just create a fingerprint logon for every website I want to secure. That way I can keep my passwords really complicated like I want because so many people have access to my computer. These passwords I save then in a application called KeePass Password Safe.

I should have added that it did work, perfectly. I leave my laptop on when I am out of my office. My screen saver starts and can't be unlocked without the reader, so that keeps snoops out.

    Thanks again,
