    DVD RW drive disappears!

Within the last month, probably after Windows 7 updates, my Pioneer DVD\CD player\writer disappeared from My Computer. The drive has power, will load and unload but the drive and any disc loaded is not recognized by Win7. I have a dual boot system and the drive is fully recognized by Windows XP and can read/write from to it. Any suggestions on how to get my optical drive back into Win7? Suggestions for posting to more appropriate topic heading welcome.
    Thanks.

Checked device manager. Pioneer DVD-RW had a yellow alert - driver might be missing or corrupted. Updated driver and system reported driver up to date. Still yellow alert. Uninstalled device and rebooted. System said device driver software not succesfully installed and is currently searching preconfigured driver folders. Will update when complete.

About 3 hours later, windows 7 is still searching preconfig driver folders. The drive is an ATA device. Did Windows 7 stop supporting them? Anyway, I may install a SATA DVD drive and see how that runs. Shame to have to install two DVD drives for one computer but if I need a SATA for Win7 and the ATA drive for XP, then so be it.

Thanks, seavixen32. I'll get the driver just in case. Followed one of the similar thread links at the bottom of the page and found an MS page with instructions to delete upper and lower filters entries in the registry - yippee! Worked for me.
