    Add and Remove

When the drive comes or goes does you usb bus give you an aduible "ding"? I mean the ding you get when you plug in a device or unplug one.

While I am waiting for your answer about the ding. Take a look at this tutorial.

    Stumped

Since you want to maintain the disk and enclosure as is for the xbox, the only thing I can think of is to clean the unused entrys from your device manager per the link in post 22 above. It might help but I don't hold a lot of hope.

    Yes

Yes thats the one. I thought maybe the unused entrys in the USB might be interfering with the read on the disk. But I don't have anything to base that on. Just a guess. it won't hurt to clean up the entrys.

    Ghost Entrys

The unused entrys will be a slightly different shade. Kind of pale hence "ghost". Right click and select properties if it is a ghost enry it will say it is not present. You can then right click and select uninstall. It will go away.
