    you`ve been a massive help too, so a big thank you too yourself too. like i put it`s gonna take 14 hours to complete so it`ll be tomoz when i get back with the results just wish there was a quicker way of sorting it. oh well if it works it`ll be worth the wait

    yeah installed them but waiting to see what happens with minitool power data recovery

    Did you get the free version or paid version? As I understand it, the free version will only recover 1 GB, so you may have to scan again after buying it.

    SUCCESS!!!!!!! ended up using iCare data recovery software and using the format recovery option. took a while as my dive is a 1TB but it did the job and all file on the drive have now been recovered.
    so i just like to say a massive thanks to all who have helped with there input and ideas on solving my problem :)
