    Speedlink Medusa 5.1 USB Headphones

Just tried a pair of Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headphones with Windows 7. They work for about 10-20 seconds and then the machine blue screens.

Hopefully someone from Speedlink will spot this and sort out some drivers

    Hello,

I got nearly the same problem. Therefore i'm looking for a solution.

Headset: Speedlink Medusa 5.1 USB - Mobile Edition
    SPEEDLINK / Products / PC Accessories / Headphones & Microphones / Headsets / Medusa 5.1 Mobile

After inserting the USB into the slot Windows 7 started to get the
drivers from the windows site. It worked but you can only use 2-channel
sound although it is an 5.1 channel device.
Afterwards i started to click my way to the "device management". There I
updated the drivers by telling Windows where the Speedlink drivers are. It installed them and asked me for an restart.
After restarting Windows I got an bluescreen everytime I inserted the device.

    Are there alternative drivers?

    Thanks,
    Michael

That's the pair I have too. What AV are you using? I had AVG free and I uninstalled it. If I use Windows Media Player it still blue screens, but if I use Winamp or VLC player it can work for 20 minutes before it blue screens.

I also get two different errors MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I am using the Kaspersky 8 prototyp package, that you can use for free.

I think the bluescreens occur because of the C-Media drivers from Speedlink!
Seem that they are not compatible. It's also not possible to install the Speedlink-package "sl-8794_sl8795".

I just uninstalled the drivers and used the Windows-7 driver. After that the Headset worked, BUT only "2 channel"

    Want to play with 5.1!!!

Just tried that, no blue screens with the Microsoft drivers

Go into the Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Manage Audio Devices, then highlight your USB Audio speakers and click Configure. Mine lists it as 7.1 Surround. If I do a test, 6 of the 8 speakers work. No way to change it from 7.1 to 5.1 though.

    Yes.

I bought an 7.1 headset too... ! There is no option to set it as 5.1!
Hmmm.... 7.1 with 2 "damaged" speakers or 2-channel stereo?
    .
    ..
I think I will take the first option.

We should write an Email to Speedlink or/and Microsoft because of that bug an that not compatible software.

    What do you think?

I think it'd be quicker buying 7.1 headphones! I'll send an email to Speedlink support.

    Hello from France,
i've got the same issue with my medusa 5.1: working with 2CH with the windows7 driver and crash with the speedlink driver. Did you have some news from speedlink about this problem ?

Best option is to uninstall the Speedlink software and use the Windows drivers instead.

Speedlink don't have Windows 7 drivers for it on their site yet. They do have Windows 7 drivers for the 'Medusa NX USB 5.1 Gaming Headset' now.
