Cannot get my computer to use the drivers for my printer, need help.

I have a Windows 7 64 bit computer, almost brand new. I also have a Dell AIO 926 photo printer that i wish to connect to it. When i connect it, the computer recognizes it as normal, but says i need to download the drivers. I click troubleshoot, follow its instructions, download the correct driver(made sure when i looked manually on the dell website), for 64 bit windows 7. Only thing is, i still cant get the printer to work! it still says "troubleshoot" and wont let me print anything. and every time i "troubleshoot" it says i need drivers for it, which it did before, and just takes me in a continuous loop, getting nowhere. I then downloaded it from dell website manually( i made sure it was for 64 bit, not 32) and still no luck. i can stare at the drivers all day but i cant get my computer to use them on my printer. it just detects theyre not there. the drivers are installed to the main hard drive C:, under dell/drivers/R150575. is it installed in the wrong place? i couldnt find a different place to install it in the drop downs, and it seemed like a good place to install it. i have also restarted the computer to make sure, and disconnected & reconnected the USB; still no luck for both, still that dreaded exclamation mark next to the printer under "hardware and devices".

Hiya pal. Did you plug the printer in before installing the drivers ? Most printers need the software/drivers to be installed prior to plugging the device in. But you can follow this guide which might make it easier. Hope this helps a bit :)

As Pooman's link to the Dell guide explains, you must uninstall any printer drivers you have installed and disconnect the USB printer cable then switch the printer off.

Navigate to the folder where the printer driver was saved to then right-click the driver installer and choose Run as Administrator so that it installs with elevated privileges. Next, switch on the printer then reconnect the USB cable and you should be good to go.

That's a temporary directory only. The installer is supposed to run automatically after the downloaded files are "unzipped" to this temp directory. You can double-click the setup file under the directory (folder) you have referenced. That will install the driver into the proper location. Once it's working, you can delete the Dell directory because it's no longer needed.
