Problem with external drive not showing up

im new to windows 7 coming from xp and i was plugging in one of my external hard drives for the first time into my new pc and windows installs the driver but its no where to be seen in my computer

i go into disk management and its there but has no drive letter but the problem is it wont let me assign a drive letter when i right click only options i have is convert to dynamic disk or delete volume

i really need windows 7 to see my drives i have 6 external drives all work fine with xp only tried this one on win 7 but i assume the others will have a hard time to since its nothing wrong with the actual drive

    any ideas?
