why do i have to keep putting my password in?

Putting the laptop to sleep
Hi all, just joined.. just got a new laptop, samsung Q320, it says to put the laptop to sleep press the "esc" key, it even has a picture of the moon on it, but when I press it nothing happens. any ideas? thanks
