Bought blue ray drive for my laptop but media player wont play disks.

I have bought a LITON (DS-6E2SH) blue ray player for my laptop and it is working fine in so much as it will play DVD's and CD's but I can't play blue ray disks because media player doesn't support them. Does anyone know whether there is any good software that will support their play back.

    x264 achieves Blu-Ray Compatibility
    2010-04-25
The x264 project has announced the first free software encoder to be able to generate Blu-ray compliant video. In addition, the announcement comes with a torrent of an x264-encoded Blu-ray disc containing entirely free content, such as the Open Movie Project videos.
While there are still no free software Blu-ray authoring tools, hopefully this will change now that video and audio are taken care of so that everyone will be able to make their own Blu-rays without expensive proprietary software. Grab your torrent now!. Know more about this achievement!

First and foremost download, run Cyberlink BD 3D advisor CyberLink Blu-ray Disc Support and confirm that your playback chain including the display is HDCP compliant.

    Software Players:
    Arcsoft's Total Media theater 5 World's Leading Blu-ray 3D Player Software - ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 5

Cyberlink's Power DVD 11 Ultra The Blu-ray Player for All Media on PC, Device, Home & Social Cloud

Nero 11 Platinum that includes Blu-ray player Nero - HD video editing and authoring | Nero 11 Platinum

If you want to go the freeware way:

Media Player Classic Home Cinema Media Player Classic - Home Cinema - Video Player , with DVDFab's PassKey Lite Free download DVDFab, Download DVDFab for free -- Download and try out the best Blu-ray and DVD copy software. running in the background. ( you will only be able to play the main movie with language, subtitles selection)

You may also convert your bluray disks into mkv MakeMKV - Make MKV from Blu-ray and DVD and play the mkv files. ( same blu-ray quality)

    Hi there
(If against forum rules please delete)

If you buy a copy of AnyDVD it will automatically remove blu ray disc protection when you insert the disk.

Note Not COPYING the disk --AnyDVD is simply enabling a disk you've PAID FOR to work on your computer so no intention of illegal copying / pirate software etc etc.

Used in this way AFAIK it should be legal in most countries --however "the suits" often come up with weird regulations so check out where you live.

Then using the M2TS stream you can use the VLC player (Legal and Free) to play your Blu Ray movie.

AnyDVD is fine and legal in IS.

It *Might not* be ok where you are so you'll have to check that out for yourself.

However the link for VLC (100% legal) is here.

VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

    Cheers

VLC can play only m2ts files. So one has to find out which of the countless :) m2ts file/s one has to play and in which order.

MPC-HC automatically selects the main movie playlist and starts playing the BD movie from start to end. My post MKV and Blu-ray player

I did not suggest AnyDVDHD to the OP since he is inclined to buy a regular licenced software player and has queried about it.

In that case he will not need AnyDVDHD, provided his playback chain is HDCP compliant. He can make do with the DVDFab's free Passkey Lite till then.:)

If OP wants to buy a regular software he should keep looking and buy it only when there is a substantial discount.
