Drive Letters Changed

Hello Folks,
I bought a new portabe hdd. Before connecting it, I powered on the 2 other ones I normally use on my PC. After the drive was installed, I opened My Computer and all the drive letters had changed. Why? & can they be returned to originals.
The USB port AFAIK has never been used before.

Hello George,

You should be able to use either option in the tutorial below to change the drive letters back to what they were. If one drive is using another's old letter, then you may need to change it to some other letter that none of them used before in order to rearrange and change the letters back.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for reminding me how it's done. I was thinking more on the lines, that each USB port was assigned a specific letter regardless of what's plugged in. My pc has 1 on the front & 3 or 4 @ the rear.
P.S. I like your new Avatar.

You're most welcome George.

Yeah, I suppose that could be a bit confusing. I think it was done that way to be shorter and to help recognize it being for the "Windows 7" OS.

Yeah but they get no traffic (other than the faked stats) and dont rank in google, so it doesn't really matter

Drive letters changed by Windows 7 now can't boot
I turned on my PC this morning and it took me to a start up repair option screen which I now can't get past. I've had this PC for 15 months and this is the first problem I've had. I have made no changes to the PC, so all I can think of is that somehow since closing last night and restarting today...
