just wanna be sure to pick the right move. since my money is not that abundant. haha. Does HT pose noticeable diference? if not. I'm really going to buy the 2500k. which board is better overclocker? p67 or other chipset for 1155?
or. is that board on first post be a good overclocker?
Hyperthreading can benefit some depending what you do. Nobody mentioned the larger cache on the i7 (8MB vs 6MB). That might have more benefit than the hyperthreading.

I would get an Asus or a Gigabyte to overclock - not an Intel.

so the 2MB cache and HTT worth the $100? (not sarcastic)
but would rather be sure now before it's too late

That depends on your use and how much you value a modicum of performance increase vs. $100

I would go for it. Wish I would have bought the i7-860 or i7-870 instead of the I5-760.

Pc format magazine voted the core i5 2500k CPU still the best for gamers and the best value for money.

Its not the fastest in the world.. but the fastest will set you back £800...

the 2500k was only 5-10fps on average behind the 2600k in games testing. to me $100 isnt worth 10fps.. it only beat the 2500k hands down in HD video editing, but like the magazine writers said, the average person isnt going to edit HD videos in real time.

    just my tuppence worth,

As the happy owner of an i-5 2500k I haven't found a game it can't play well at maximum settings yet. The only thing it occasionally struggles with is FSX, but frankly, that's only because in the area's I fly in where it lags, there are upwards of 600 AI Aircraft in the sky.

As others have said, if gaming is your concern, you may as well save yourself $100. It may not be the fastest, but it doesn't need to be, it's already way ahead of most games and applications anyway.

what do you mean that 2600k beats the 2500k at HD vid edit? do you mean a very noticeable diferrence? how 'bout photoshop? that's the program I mainly use. have anyone here tested PS CS5 on both cpu's? was there some significant diff's.

I'm confused again on what to buy. I usually use PS on hi-res large format designs as we are an advertising company involved in hi-res large format printing like billboards. so, a file would be at about 100MB min and 1GB at usual.

is there a downside for the 2600k having HTT? some says having it enabled causes some problems on other progs.

Well unless you film in true 1080p and try editing in real time then the difference will be minimal, and unless you have the fastest SSD in the world, you'll end up waiting for your hard drive to write the file so that will be your bottle neck. PS wiil benefit from more ram than a faster cpu, and as the clock speeds are very similar as it is. I can't see the hyperthreading making much of a difference. Your doing it with your current system are you not? And its not taking a month and a day? So any new generation cpu will blitz through it.

yes. I'm doing it in my current setup. the only downside is that when the design has several masks or applying filters. the pc became more unresponsive at many times and you'll see lags

If your Video Encoder (or any other mulri-threaded app) of choice will take advantage of multiple threads well, yes ..
    Hyperthreading is a significant difference.

    8 threads vs 4.

This was my sole reason for going with the i7 and i do not regret it.

However, if you rarely encode videos or work with HD resolutions type stuff, it may not be worth the extra cost.
But if you do somewhat often, by all means .. get the i7 over the i5. It will be worth it.

For gaming ... as mentioned theres really not much to be gained from HT. So do not expect the i7s to perform that much better than a i5 in a games.
