Hi John, here is the solution:

1 Open RegEdit - Click the Start Menu, go to Accessories and select Run. In the "Run" Dialogue box that opens type in "regedit"

    2 Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows Portable Devices > Devices:

    3 Find "USB#VID_05AC&PID_1297#CC642E1B9835D04E791694EAD74293EC398B1F36":

From inside there, double click the "FriendlyName" key to change "Apple iPhone" to "John's iPhone" or whatever your Name is and your Device is (iPhone, iPad, iPod).

4: Find ""USB#VID_05AC&PID_1297&MI_00#0" from Devices too and change that to "John's iPhone" too.

       Note
The USB Registry Keys may be different, just change whatever USB Registry Keys you have in that selected RegEdit area.

       Information
There may be other USB......... Registry Keys, if there are, change those too please.

Log off and log back on to Apply the changes, if that doesn't help, restart.

    After.. -

Hope this helps, it worked for me.
    Good Luck, Joe. :)

just go to Settings>General>About>Name on the phone and change it to what you want it to say.

Mine says Zepher's iPhone in My Computer as well as iTunes.

EDIT: just checked and it does not say my name in My Computer.
It was my old HTC Touch Pro 2 that had my name.

Hi Zepher, I did this on iTunes and from the iPhone itself. Nothing worked, however changing the Registry Keys did.

I just did the registry mod you posted and it worked for me, changed instantly.

does that mean every iPhone plugged into the computer will now say "Zepher's iPhone"?

No Idea, I only have one iPhone to test it with, I would assume so though.

Or maybe each different iPhone inserted adds another USB Registry Key and you have the option to change that one too.

in regedit go here: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows Portable Devices > Devices

then flick through the keys looking for the one with "Friendly Name" (current devicename) and change that.

Try going back to regedit and go here again: Microsoft > Windows Portable Devices > Devices and select something there, change it to "John's iPhone" and do the same for the other keys too.

Change the ""Friendly Name" Current Device key but not the "Defsult Keys".

I don't think all the USB Keys are the same name, just change change whatever "Friendly Name" Keys you do have.
